Founded in 1905, Independiente are known as the King of Cups. Their record seven Copa Libertadores triumphs include four consecutive victories from 1972 to 1975.Until 2005 the stadium was known as known simply as Estadio de Independiente or La Doble Visera de Cemento ("The double cement visor") because of the two roofs overhanging the spectators.
